David Chaney is the founder and second-generation leader of Legacy & Succession, where he guides business-owning families through legacy planning, succession, and wealth transfer with a distinctly values-based approach. With decades of experience advising families through complex, high-stakes transitions, David is known for helping clients prepare the next generation for responsibility rather than entitlement. He is the author of Most Valuable and Succession by Design, works that reflect his conviction that effective legacy planning is about developing people, leadership, and purpose alongside financial stewardship. His practice is shaped by faith-informed principles, multigenerational continuity, and a coaching mindset that brings clarity, alignment, and confidence to families navigating pivotal seasons of change.

David has been married to his high school sweetheart for more than 40 years and is the proud father of four children and grandfather to two grandsons. Outside of his professional work, he enjoys time on his ranch in Perkins, Oklahoma, traveling with family, fishing in the mountains, and curating a well-loved bourbon collection. He remains actively involved in his church and is deeply committed to supporting and mentoring youth in agricultural communities, reflecting the same long-term, people-centered focus that defines his work with families and future leaders.
